July 13-19

The new week featured three nights of softball in Willow Street, on Tuesday Peach Bottom played a doubleheader winning over Lancaster in the opener and the Silver Bullets in the nightcap. Wednesday saw Memorial playing two, the first game with the Silver Bullets ended in a tie (!!!), Memorial won the second game over Lancaster (the league has a rule allowing for one extra inning in a tie game, if the issue isn't resolved it goes into the records as a deadlock). On Thursday night Akatsuki played twice and lost both, the opener to Peach Bottom and and the second game to Kelly's. The weekend began with terrible news, early Saturday morning Suzanne Witwer (the wife of Stormers PA voice John Witwer) passed at the age of 77. It wasn't entirely unexpected, she had not been doing well for some time. John posted the news on social media and the outpouring of support was immediate. Sunday morning at Lions Park in Rothsville was the spring season's Grand Finale, in the consolation game Hillside defeated Warwick while Ephrata beat Township for the championship. The league began in the spring of 2021, this was the eleventh season and the fourth title for Ephrata, Township has won it three times and Hillside and Warwick have two each. Fifty-five players participated and as long as the interest is there we'll keep the league going for as long as we can. Right now we're looking at September 13 for the fall season since Labor Day weekend is a little bit later this time around. Take care, thanks for reading.
