October 12-18

After a quiet start to the new week business picked up on Thursday and Friday at McCaskey. The field hockey team held its Senior Night on the 15th, the next night was Homecoming in the "new" football stadium. The press box is at the top of the home-side grandstand, in order to get there you must walk from the main gate to the opposite side of the field, walk up a ramp to the seating area and climb fifty-two steps from there (I counted them). I told them if I'm there much longer they may need to rent a cherry-picker for me to make the trip. The football team played its first home game two weeks earlier and broke a twenty-two game losing streak but since the emotion of that night it's been business as usual (no surprise since nobody was pretending to possess any magic elixir). The club lost on the 9th and on this night visiting Manheim Township won going away 63-14, it was 42-0 at the half and the entire second half was played under mercy rules. JPM's two scores came on a Johnny Collazo run and a pass from Victor Betancourt to Mike Mellinger, Seamus Nesbitt was 2-2 on convert attempts. We talk a great deal about how it takes time to turn a program around but it doesn't seem to be dampening anybody's spirits, another enthusiastic home crowd showed out and supported the team despite the one-sided outcome. The last home game is on the 30th, I regrettably am absent for hockey at the Arena. On Sunday we were in Rothsville on a clear and dry day (Really?, I'd almost forgotten what a decent Sunday looked like around here), Ten new players joined up bringing the total to forty-seven, all but five were in attendance. Ephrata defeated Township and Warwick beat Hillside, week #3 (it should be #7) is on Sunday the 25th, Take care, thanks for reading.
