June 17-21

When I was a youngster in the mid-1960s there was a popular song that contained the lyric "second verse, same as the first" which would have been a accurate description for the middle part of the week. Wednesday (like Monday) featured softball in Willow Street, the team known only as Lancaster split a doubleheader losing to Memorial and defeating Akatsuki. Thursday (like Tuesday) was a midget baseball night in the city, the Jr. Tornado hosted Annville-Cleona, The AC school district is located in Lebanon County but as a member of the LL League during school seasons they are eligible to play in Lancaster County's summer league. This game was eerily similar to the game on Tuesday which for the JrT was unfortunate, AC led 5-0 after two and broke it wide open in the third. Seventeen batters came up, fourteen reached base and eleven of them scored. The JrT got on the board in the bottom half, Wellinton Lopez was hit by the pitch and and scored on Eli White's infield groundout. For the game the JrT had only ten batters, just two reached base and both of those were via the HBP. The game was called by mercy rule after three innings, Joel Fiorentino started and took the decision. The weekend was uneventful, with no baseball anywhere and no hockey on Sunday for Fathers Day lunch with Jenny on Saturday was about all that happened. Take care, thanks for reading.
