November 6-7
Wednesday night street hockey at Reservoir Park as the East and West divisions began their playoffs. Each division has only the championship series, the top two finishers were the only teams to qualify. In the East Whitmoyer Auto defeated the UniLords to take a 1-0 lead, in the West Dominion Pizza assumed a 2-0 series lead with a win over the Kings. There are only two teams in the West, Dominion Pizza was awarded a 1-0 advantage entering the finals by virtue of the better regular-season record (why there are only two teams in the division to begin with is a convoluted story in and of itself, any attempt at an explanation would only induce a migraine headache). Ron refereed both games, one with Derek and the other with Steve (each man played in the other game). We had shift work on the clock as well, Wally and Devyn each worked one game. The series continue on Monday the 11th. The Thursday weather forecast called for rain in the morning and clearing in the afternoon, the day began just as predicted. I was with Jenny for lunch in the morning, it was still raining in Quarryville when I left to come back to town. By the time I arrived the rain was all but over, I went to the rink to do some cleanup work. The Billy-Goat sucked up the wet leaves (and a lot of the water from the rink's undersurface as well), when I was done the surface was bare. Afternoon winds were strong from the northwest and the sun broke through for a time, by 6:30 game-time the rink was virtually dry except for the area in front of the player benches (that's where the rink drains and it's always the worst spot). The Midwest semifinals continued, both series ended in two-game sweeps as Yorgo's eliminated the BallBlasters and the Killbots won over Brendee's. That game was tied in the dying moments, the Killbots scored the winning goal with one second left in regulation play. The Killbots face Yorgo's in the best-of-five finals beginning on Monday. Take care, thanks for reading.
