November 13-14

Still cold and windy on Wednesday as we continued street hockey playoffs at the rink. Both series still in progress could have ended on this night but neither did, the UniLords forged a fifth game in the East finals with a win over Whitmoyer Auto Group and the Killbots drew to within 2-1 in the Midwest with a victory over Yorgo's. Ron and Des worked both games, Wally ran the clock. On Thursday morning Jenny and I did our usual lunch date, in the afternoon I headed north on 222 for a meeting at the Arena. The Major Indoor Soccer League granted an expansion franchise to Reading for the '13-14 season, the Pennsylvania Roar plays its home opener on Friday the 15th. The meeting was for organizational purposes since many on the staff are new to their respective duties. Granted that I'm somewhat of an old hand at what I do but it will still be something different for me as well. From 1988 to 1991 Hershey had an indoor soccer team, the Impact played at the old Arena. I was there quite often and the games were always entertaining. The Roar plays ten games at the Arena, the season ends in March. By the time we were done and I was back in town the evening's hockey games were underway, I went to the rink for what remained. The Killbots forced a fifth and deciding game in the Midwest finals, that is scheduled on Monday the 18th. In the East finals the UniLords capped off their unlikely comeback from 0-2 to win the championship. Had the events of that series occurred at the professional level it would be talked about for years, it will certainly be remembered around here for some time. Take care, thanks for reading.
