November 4

Friday night at Rossmere Stadium for the first time in four weeks, the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders finished a 10-0 regular season with a 51-7 win over Elco (from Myerstown in Eastern Lebanon County). Before the game we did the usual Senior Night activities not unlike the previous week at McCaskey. The game itself was one of the more competitive the Crusaders have had this season, at halftime it was (only) 21-0 and the mercy rule was not invoked until the final two minutes of the third quarter. LCHS scored six rushing touchdowns: Roman Clay had four, Brandon Hollister and reserve quarterback Mac McCafferty had one each. Sean Titus caught a scoring pass from starting QB Andrew Dzurik and placekicker Satchel Ziffer added a field goal to round out the scoring. This marks the second consecutive unbeaten regular season for LCHS, in 2010 the season ended with a loss in the district semifinals. In '09 the club lost in the third week of the season but never tasted defeat again en route to a state championship. District playoffs start on the 11th, the Crusaders will again be a top seed so we'll see what happens this year. Saw on the internet where JPM finished its season with a win in Ephrata, after starting 0-6 they recovered to win three of their last four. It means little in the short term but it's something to build on for 2012. Take care, thanks for reading.
