June 16-18

Friday night on North Prince Street, the Barnstormers (fresh from their series in York) were returning home for the first of a nine-date homestand. The visiting Charleston Dirty Birds (what a name) scored twice in the first inning and added a single run in the third, in the home third Yeison Coca singled and advanced to second on an error, after a wild pitch Melvin Mercedes' sac fly brought Coca home putting the Stormers on the board at 3-1. In the fifth the Dirty Birds (really?) went ahead by three, the Stormers crawled back to within one in the bottom of the sixth. Coca drew a walk and took third on Mercedes' double, Andretty Cordero grounded out scoring Coca, Mercedes touched home on a dropped third strike making it 4-3. In the ninth Charleston added an insurance run and made it stand up for the 5-3 decision, Dominic Disabatino started and worked in to the eighth inning, Zach Warren and Andrew Lee finished it in relief. The series continued on Saturday night (Charleston win) and Sunday afternoon (Stormer win) but I was absent from both. Jenny's friend Courtney has three young daughters, the middle one (her name is Shania) turns six on the 19th and Saturday was her birthday party. It was held at a public park south of the city, there is a splashpad there which is very popular with children. It started around 4:00 or so, we were there until about 6:30 and nobody went home hungry. Sunday morning in Rothsville was week #8 of street hockey, Township won over Hillside and Warwick beat Ephrata. This was actually the last scheduled week, makeup games from April 30 are set for the 25th with the third-place and championship games following on July 9th.Take care. thanks for reading.
