May 30-31

Friday night baseball on North Prince Street, the Barnstormers hosted the Sugar Land Skeeters (the ALPB's Texas entry). After the lost weekend in York the Stormers rebounded to to win two of three at home over Long Island, on this night they kept it going with a 6-2 win over the Skeeters. Sugar Land put a run on the board in the first, in their half the Barnstormers replied on a Cole Garner RBI hit and a two-run double from newcomer Wilson Batista (a 2013 York Rev). The Skeeters got one back in the third but in the fourth the Stormers added two more on an error and a RBI hit by Jerry Owens (a 2013 Stormer recently returned from the Mexican League). Brock Kjeldgaard's eighth-inning solo homer put the icing on it as Mark Rogers (formerly of the Milwaukee Brewers organization) picked up the win in his home debut. On Saturday we did our weekend lunch visit in Quarryville, in the evening we were back for game #2. This was the Stormers' third Saturday home date, the third Saturday Jenny and Helen were there and the first time there was no rain in the forecast. It was School District Of Lancaster night, the giveaway item was a bobblehead figurine of John Piersol McCaskey (former educator, one-time mayor of Lancaster and the man for whom the city's high school is named). In the game itself the Barnstormers again fell behind 1-0, a four-run third inning behind Cole Garner's RBI single and a Wilson Batista three-run double gave them the lead for good. The Skeeters rallied to make it 4-3 in the sixth but a Barnstormer run on a wild pitch added an insurance marker as the Home Team won it 5-3. Dan Osterbrock (one-time Minnesota Twins property) went five innings for the win, Jason Urquidez saved it. There was a fireworks show after the game but we never saw any of it, like a home run we were gone/outta there/see ya. Take care, thanks for reading.
