December 5-8
Had lunch with Jenny and her mother on Thursday, it was a largely dark and misty day. That weather was a prelude to Friday when it rained steadily just about all day. I went over to McCaskey after supper to give the coaches our varsity scorebook since I would be absent from Saturday's opening game. The weather was much better on Saturday, the rain had moved on. After lunch with the ladies we came back to the city and on to Reading for the evening's hockey game at the Arena. Since we last saw the Royals the roster has undergone a fair share of change (a way of life at the minor league level). The biggest development was the return of former captain Ryan Cruthers. Ryan played for the Royals from 2009-2012, over the summer he returned to the area and assumed control of the Royals' youth hockey program. On this night he was wearing his familiar #16 as the Royals hosted the Fort Wayne Komets for the only time this season. The game started poorly for the Royals and went downhill from there as the Komets won going away 7-2 The Royals' goal-scorers were Louie Caporusso and Ned Lukacevic (another recent returnee, Neddy played parts of three seasons in Reading from 2006-2009 and has spent the last few years playing chiefly in Europe), Brandon Anderson took the loss in goal. There was talk of snow in the forecast for Sunday, my mother and a few of her friends had plans to attend an afternoon show in Hershey. They talked it over on Saturday night and it was decided that if I could take her to their house (about ten miles west of town) they would go from there and take her home afterwards. The snow began to fall in the morning, when we left the city driving was already hazardous. There were several accidents all around the area but I managed to get her to her friend's house and myself back home all in one piece. The show started at 3:00 and let out around 5:30, by the time they got out of the parking lot and back to town it was almost 7:30. The snow had stopped by then so I guess all's well that ends well. They want freezing rain on Monday and the chance of more snow on Tuesday. Take care, thanks for reading.
